It’s Anti-Cancer Soup Time!

People with pelvic pain conditions, including endometriosis, are at an increased risk of some types of cancer.

Other common cancer risk factors:

  • Inflammation
  • Having a history of some viral infections, including HPV
  • History of smoking
  • Family history of cancer
  • Chronic stress
  • Drinking alcohol

While cancer risk factors are common, let’s focus on the good news.  You have the power to create an environment within your body, within your cells, where cancer does not like to live.  You have some very powerful tools available to you to make your body much less habitable for cancer.

While it can be more complex than this, let’s start with a few keys to keeping your body cancer-free…

  1. Cancer likes acidic environments.
  2. Cancer likes anaerobic environments.
  3. Cancer can be weakened by antioxidants.

Here’s a tip for each of these keys…

  • Since cancer likes an acidic environment, keep your body alkaline. How?

    • Drink water with lemon, all day, every day.

    • Eat tons of leafy greens. Tons! 

    • Drink diluted apple cider vinegar at the beginning of each meal (approximately 1 Tbsp of raw apple cider vinegar to 8 Tbsp of water.)

  • Cancer likes anaerobic environments.  How can you better oxygenate your body?

    • Exercise!  Walking in nature, swimming, yoga, Pilates, dancing, and lifting heavy weights are especially beneficial. But, any kind of exercise that you enjoy and will do consistently will improve your cellular oxygenation.

    • Breathe through your nose. Especially at night, sleeping with your mouth closed helps to better oxygenate your body. Try nasal strips, such as Breathe Right strips to retrain breathing through your nose at night.

    • Daytime breathwork. Start with a simple 4-8 breath. Breathe in for 4 seconds, then out for a count of 8 seconds. Repeat for at least 5-10 minutes daily.

  • Cancer can be weakened by antioxidants.  This one’s easy to achieve by eating nourishing, easily absorbed soups every day. Eat seasonally.

Some powerhouse antioxidants to enjoy in the fall and winter… turmeric, mushrooms, fennel, parsley, butternut squash, and sweet potato.  Yum.

During the spring and summer months, try cold soups and crunchy salads with antioxidant-rich kale, cabbage, tomatoes, red onion, basil, oregano, asparagus, and summer squashes like delicata or zucchini.

Eating foods made with colorful and antioxidant-rich vegetables are some of the most delicious ways to keep cancer away in the fall.
